Project
Guardian is a longitudinal study of physical and psychological development of
school children to improve their health and psychological status and to assist
the school authorities for adopting model approach on health and psychological
care for students suffering from stress, slow learning and learning disability.
The project envisages data bank of cross sectional studies pertaining to knowledge,
attitude, behaviour etc. It acts as developing standard assessment tools for
evaluation of school children using observation in natural setting of learning
disability. The project is initiated by National Institute of Behaviroual Sciences
(NIBS), an NGO dedicated to mental health, the subject that is often neglected.
NIBS has been running mental health clinic of Bidhan Nagar SDH, a government
hospital, mental health outdoor services of which is privatized for the first
time to an NGO. Government of West Bengal, Department of health and Education have approved Project Guardian to be implemented by NIBS.
