    Training of Health Workers
NIBS plays a very pivotal role in imparting training to the health workers in the rural sectors. Dr. Kedar Ranjan Banerjee, the Executive Head made extensive survey of the villages and found that there are more quacks than medical practitioners in the villages. These quacks might have formed some knowledge on physical health but knows nothing on mental health. After realizing the same, NIBS team members started visiting the villages to consolidate Awareness Building Programme on mental health, not only to the villagers, but also to the health workers.

Mental Health , in spite  of being an integral part of total health, is still being grossly neglected in our country. NIBS following the guide lines of National Mental Health Program,  is conducting it’s training program on mental health to different groups of people. We want to strengthen the community health program of Governmental and NGOs through direct training programs under NIBS or assisting other training organizations with efficient consultancy services in training health workers, social workers etc. on mental health.

Why a Training in Mental Health ?
In the given situation it is therefore a natural deduction that any intervention on health related issues that does not address mental is will be not only  partial but also ineffective. Additionally, just as there is  importance  and emphasis given to Preventive Health Care  we as  NGO Health or Community Workers or Individuals will also be able to detect mental health related challenged persons at an early stage

if not prevent the arising of such a problem  by creating  a conducive  atmosphere whereby the numbers of such persons can be arrested if not  reduced  remarkably. We have structured a  short term Training module for just 3 days.

This Training  Module will equip NGO’s Workers to become Mental Health Workers, who are able to identify such problems and in the

eventuality even refer them for further treatment. This training will also facilitate awareness generation, detection, differentiation and diagnosis of persons with psychiatric and or neurological  problems. The training course will also equip. the trained persons to deal with addiction of any kind. Additionally, this training is so designed that the Mental Health Worker will be able to disseminate the information available to their colleagues as well as create awareness amongst communities.
